Adnan Hatic (After Oblivion): Continuam aventura pe urmele formatiei Death (interviu)

In al doilea rand, muzica After Oblivion este puternic influentata in special de legendara formatie americana, DEATH.

M: Salutare, Adnan! Pentru inceput, ne poti oferi unele informatii despre trupa After Oblivion?

Salutare! After Oblivion este o trupa de technical death metal din Bosnia Hertegovina pe care am infiintat-o in 2007. In acelasi an, am lasat un demo ce continea patru piese, intitulat "The Carnal Form". In 2010 s-a creat un line-up complet si am inregistrat albumul de debut.

In mare parte Death.

M: Cum a evoluat scena metal in ultimii ani in Bosnia si Hertegovina?

Muzica metal a fost mereu prezenta in mica noastra tara.

M: Persoanal, iubesc piesa “Septic Mind.

M: Cine cumpune in trupa voastra?

Eu scriu toate versurile. Nu planuiesc nimic in advans, doar iau pixul si scriu cateva randuri in studio.

Avem cateva planuri sa pornim in cateva turnee mici in 2013. Ar fi super sa venim in Romania.

Toate cele bune.

English version below:

M: Hello, Adnan! First, could you give us some background information on your band, After Oblivion?

Hey there. After Oblivion is technical death metal band from Bosnia and Herzegovina that I started in 2007. Same year, 4 track demo entitled "The Carnal Form" is released. In 2010 full line up was gathered so we recorded album. Firstly we released EP Vultures in early 2011 and then in November 2012 a full length album entitled "Stamina" through italian label Metal on Metal records”.

M: What bands were you influenced by? I am more than sure that I hear some Death influence when I listen to your new album, "Stamina."

Mainly Death. I simply love everything about that band, and that specific genre of music, so you can say that we are also influenced by acts like Pestilence, Gorguts or Kreator ...

M: Do you ever get sick of constant comparisons with Death and other such bands?

Not really. That just means that we manage to do what we intended to do, and that is to continue our journey on the Death''''''''''''''''s footsteps.

M: Speaking of Death, how did Chuck Schuldiner’s death affect you personally?

In high school, I had much more free time so I was listening to music for few hours a day. Doing nothing but listening to music. And since most of the time that was Death, I believe that effected my personality in some ways. Not sure how, but surely did.

M: What is it about this album that makes it different from the other EP`s you have written in the past.

Musically, there is not much difference. When starting the band I knew exactly how will it sound and from the very first riff to the last, there is not much changes. "Stamina" is actually some sort of compilation of our work from past years where you can find and some re-recorded demo songs from our early days.

M: How did the metal scene evolve in the past years in Bosnia and Herzegovina? After Oblivion is the first band that comes out of the country, but are there any other good bands that we can listen?

Metal was always present in our small country. There were always bands playing, no matter what. But it is hard to get noticed in the world when you re coming from such a isolated place, but there are many bands that deserve to be heard. Here is a cool blog where you can find all the info about bands and scene in Bosnia and Herzegovina http://bosnian-metal.blogspot.com/.

M: Your country was deceived by wars and ethnic disputes. Was the war from the 90’s the main inspiration source for the band’s lyrics?

War is for loosers! I am sure that it affected me subconsciously, but I have no need to write about it. I rather write about the present and the way I feel about some specific themes.

M: I personally love the song "Septic Mind". What exactly does that song mean to you? Is it something personal?

Everything in this band is kind of personal thing for me. That song is about negligent behavior of some people towards other living creatures and surrounding world without thinking about the consequences. People should think more before they act, I believe that it is not that hard.

M: Who does the songwriting work for this band? Are you writing the lyrics like most vocalists do?

I am doing all the lyrics. Never plan anything in advance, just take the pen and write lines in the studio. I have some ideas about what should I write about, but majority of the work is done moments before recording.

M: How was the experience working on the “Septic Mind” video?

I remember that it was quite cold. We just recorded everything by ourselves in my room, apart of the drum sections which we recorded in Marko`s rehearsal room. Everything is filmed on cheap camcorder with zero budget. Jasenko had a hard time there because he had a broken leg and could not move much and had to stand on one leg as a stork.

M: On your dream tour who would you guys tour with?

Touring means that you are spending a lot of time with some people. So, I would rather go on tour with someone that I know and I can have fun times with. But, I believe it would be nice sharing stage with bands such as Gorguts, Pestilence, Sadus, Kreator, because I think our music would be interesting for that kind of audience.

M: Should we expect some touring after the new album hits the market? Maybe a European tour which would also include Romania?

We have some plans to go on smaller tours in 2013. It would be great to come to Romania. I was playing few cities there with my other band Agonize, and the shows were great. Love the Carpathians for the amazing landscapes.

M: Where can your fans find and buy your debut album?

I think that the most efficient and cheeper way is to order it directly from the label at: http://metal-on-metal.com/shop/ But there are a lot of sites selling After Oblivion CDs, maybe try at your local distro.

M: That`s all my questions. Do you have anything else you wanted to discuss that I didn’t bring up?

I think we covered everything here. Just wish to thank you for your time and support.
All the best.
