1. Even if Philm is known as a progressive band, there are many other influences when it comes to your music and everything sounds naturally. How is that possible?
I believe it's possible when the musicians in the band are rhythmically competent. James Brown asked his band what instrument they played and he expected them to answer, the drums. A musician needs to approach his instrument, whether its guitar bass or vocals, as if it’s a percussive instrument to gain the advantages of rhythmic unison.
2.Speaking about writing music, who is responsible for that in Philm? Is it an individual effort or a joint effort?
It is definitely a joint effort. Though Gerry is typically the lyricist.
3.Musically speaking, what should we expect from Philm's future album? Will it sound as your last album, Fire From The Evening Sun, or will it be something completely different?
It will likely be just as heavy... if not heavier. I’m certain we’ll tap into something new to keep you all guessing.
4.You are mainly known as a trash drummer. How is it to play in a progressive metal band? Do you feel like you have more freedom than you had in Slayer?
It’s amazing. I definitely have more freedom. All three members contribute to the song writing and receive proper acknowledgement for doing so. I’ll contribute to everything from a melody, riff or an arrangement as well as drums and percussion. I love it.
5. For a drummer your sound cannot be mistaken, even if you play different musical genres. What is your secret? Is it the technique or your equipment?
I feel it’s a number of things: Technique, equipment, articulation, being self-taught, feel, and being born and raised in a Cuban home.
6. Do you have any other projects beside Philm? Or Philm has become your one and only priority?
I’m always working on various projects, but at the moment I’m focusing on PHILM.
7. Have you ever though about recruiting an extra member for Philm? someone to play the keyboard or a second guitarist maybe?
Definitely not a second guitarist. If we do, it would be a keyboard player for one song. Nothing permanent.
8. How do you find your inspiration, or what exactly inspires you when you write the lyrics for your songs?
I find inspiration everyday in just getting to do what I love. Life is inspiration. I very much enjoy listening to various styles of music and and am constantly finding ways to reinvent my self through my musical travels.
9. What bands or new albums caught your attention this year?
Too many to to list. There is a lot of talent out there.
10. A final thought for your Romanian fans?
Thank you for your continual love and support. It allows me to do this for a living, and I am very grateful to you for that. I am very excited to bring PHILM to your country and show you why I love this band so much. We’re going to have a great time!
