1. Who had the idea for this tour with you, Jennifer Batten and Chad Wackerman?

Jennifer contacted me with the idea in the middle of last year and asked me for some drummer recommendations and we both agreed that Chad would be the perfect fit…I have recorded with Chad and played with Jennifer at guitar shows, but never toured extensively with them, and I am looking forward to it!

2.You have played with many artists, who was the one who you felt better on stage with, musically speaking.

That is an impossible question to answer . Every musician that I have played with brings something unique to the gig, but certainly my time playing with Joe was a high point in my career. One of the most fun times I ever had was playing with a GREAT Mexican rock band called Caifanes… great musicians and the crowd was so different form Satch crowds…there were FEMALES in the audience!!

3. Besides your collaborations with other artists, you have a solo career and 6 solo albums. What is your creation process for your songs?

When I write a song I have to first have a title, and that dictates what the song will be about, and what emotions I want to get across in the music…from there it is just filling in the blanks, but it is impossible to force the first point and come up with a clear vision of what the song is supposed to mean.

4. Musically speaking, are you influenced by the artists you work with?

Yes of course, especially in how I play. If I am doing a jazz go and playing with musicians who are pushing the boundaries musically and taking chances, I will hear and feel that and be influenced by it, and subconsciously my playing will be that way as well. When I am playing with a single, straight ahead rock band and everyone is just laying it down, then that is what i will tend to do as well.

5. You collaborate with musicians who approach different music styles. What is your secret to be able to perfectly fit in each and every style?

Well, I try to learn how to play as many different musical styles as possible, and I LISTEN very carefully to what everyone else is playing and try to play the perfect part that will make everyone else…and most importantly…the MUSIC sound good.

6. What albums or artists caught your attention in the past year?

I have been listening to a band from New Orleans called the Hot Eight Brass Band. Glass Animals as well.

7. When should we expect another Stu Hamm album?

My next album. “THE BOOK OF LIES” will be out in June. It has many great musicians on it including Chester Thompson on drums and Carl Verheyen on guitar and also has a “petite Suite for Solo Bass” that has seven pieces that I wrote for solo bass, each one using a different technique…available at StuHamm.com.

8. A final thought for the Romanian fans?

I had such a great time in Romania that I cannot WAIT to see all of my friends again!
